Thanks to all who came out and supported Michael Batts and I this past Friday night. I thought it was a good time. And the aroma of good coffee always makes for a good gig. We will be back soon with a couple more musicians. And it seems we need to learn some Weezer.

Michael Batts and I will be playing together this Friday night at Java Mott's here in Rocky Mount. We would love to have you come out and listen for a while. The show is from 8 to 10pm. We will be playing originals, older obscure hymns put to new music, some cover songs and a fair amount of instrumentals. Hope to see you there.

Here is an instrumental that I wrote for a friend years ago. I remember riding down a long stretch of Hwy 64 that was two lane with great scenery headed towards Charlotte, NC. I was listening to the song "Both sides now" on the album "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. I wanted so badly to write a simple yet melodic guitar instrumental. Well, I am sure this one is simple, the melodic part may be a stretch. But either way, this song was the outcome of that desire. It can be heard and downloaded here.

I like old hymns. Though I am not one of those who think that all the new music written today is completely shallow. Some is, but, some old hymns are shallow too. I don't think the time frame of when a song was written should determine it's credibility. With that said...I like old hymns, and this one is not shallow.

I came across these words while reading a biography on William Cowper written by John Piper. I loved the lyrics and decided to try my hand at putting some music to it. Here is the rough draft. It can be heard and downloaded here.

Well, I will start with the songs. I will try to post one every few days. Most are old recordings, but I will post newer versions as I find time to record more.
